Certifications are useful as an entry point, but considering you already have your foot in the door of a tech firm, I don't know if you would see much benefit from it.

You would probably get further by seeing if you could pickup a few one-off projects with your employer to get your feet wet. I think attitude and desire far outweigh a certification.

You mentioned Selenium, so I assume your going for more of a frontend/web developer role, which tends to use a vast mix of languages other than java. So you may not see the full benefit from a java cert in that role.
