Hi folks,
I have an in house web UI mini-project to deliver an operations
dashboard for a decent sized middleware system. Amazingly the bigger
middleware project is "doing it right" by designing in manageability,
observabilty and diagnosability from the start with an Operation's
Console. IE all major domain classes will implement HealthCheck,
StatisticsCheck and be accessible via JMX... There will be very few
users and all will be in house. Meaning crufty is ok. Cheap to
develop is the important attribute of this quest.
I need a UI to display near real time operations info but don't have the
budget to do a Flex+blaze+spring architecture. This needs to be cheap
to build yet do a decent job at doing back end dips for updated
statistics etc. Charts I figure could be via google charts at the
simplest. Java is not a requirement. I've done some searching and I
don't find any dashboard jump start kits like AppFuse only /simple /and
targeting a simple dashboard. Folks on this team mentioned GWT, Vaadin
... I'm not familiar with the actual cost of GWT development or if
there's other tools that would be faster and cheaper? Sure ruby on
rails is a fine dev language and basic framework, I'm wanting a bigger
jump start on a dashboard UI than "yet another language" like
ruby/grails etc. I admit this later comment is as much from an
ignorance of ruby / grails etc as it is a statement that I'm looking for
a more advanced jump start project to start with.
Thanks alot,
Curt Smith
