+1 on Dean's comments. I gave up on certifications about 2004.
If I'm totally honest, when I see a certification displayed
prominently on a resume, I am expecting to find that experience is
pretty light. Certification, much like education, has a highly
diluted impact on one's effectiveness as a developer of quality
software. The benefit I'd gained from certifications in the past was
exposure to a wide number of topics in a given field which I might not
have investigated otherwise. Proficiency in those topics, however,
was deferred until I'd had practical experience.
