+1 on Dean's comments.  I gave up on certifications about 2004.

If I'm totally honest, when I see a certification displayed  
prominently on a resume, I am expecting to find that experience is  
pretty light.  Certification, much like education, has a highly  
diluted impact on one's effectiveness as a developer of quality  
software.  The benefit I'd gained from certifications in the past was  
exposure to a wide number of topics in a given field which I might not  
have investigated otherwise.  Proficiency in those topics, however,  
was deferred until I'd had practical experience.
