I agree from a development viewpoint, JSF is like the EJB2 of the
Java-Web world - EJB3 code is amazingly easier to develop and
maintain. Unfortunately, there's so many choices for Java-web
frameworks, it's impossible to recommend one. But I digress...
The main reason I believe JSF is not a _great_ choice is the
complexity and number of things needed to create the webapp. It can,
however, be a _good_ choice if you use Jbbos Seam as the basis for
your JSF application. In fact, I would insist to your 'pointy head'
architects or management that you will minimally need Seam and
something like ICEFaces if the project is to be successful. If they
balk at using these extra, open-source, components to make JSF
development easier, tell them you refuse to reinvent the wheel and
this is the only way you'll be able to deliver something with good
functionality in a timely manner.
