[ajug-members] Is RichFaces still a viable candidate?

Well, http://labs.jboss.org/jbossrichfaces/ allows you to perform download
the source and the binaries for RichFaces. I agree the demo being behind a
registration page is silly at best. Please register and let me know if
anybody actually contacts you. It is hard to keep up with all the Red Hat
marketing machinations.
RH did write a check (a big check) to bring ajax4jsf, richfaces and the
exadel plugins into jboss.org.
The Eclipse-based tooling is available here: http://labs.jboss.org/tools/
I can't say that I've tried them much as I've been too busy in the
middle-tier.
It is true that RedHat will wish to offer support for these technologies but
they'll remain open source http://anonsvn.jboss.org/repos/richfaces/.
Hi Burr,
> RichFaces is now here
Actually, what happened is that ajax4jsf was "merged" with RichFaces
under Red Hat/JBoss. Sounds like a buyout, but the things I saw were vague.
Anyhow, yes, you are correct as to the RichFaces link; I didn't put it
before, but that's where the demo link lives. If you click the "online
Demo" link on that page, it goes, as I posted earlier, to:
http://livedemo.exadel.com/richfaces-demo/
which goes to the requested registration page. The registration page was
inserted sometime Wednesday.
To be clear, I'm not particularly concerned about the demo itself,
although it's an irritant and could disgruntle clients if I said "take a
look at the demo to see available component possibilities" and they are
asked to give company and phone. From just a pointy head marketing point of
view, how smart is it to restrict your potential audience from viewing your
product?
My concern is, if this is now required to just look
at a demo, what does that imply for the actual project? ajax4jsf was
already open source, now it's subsumed under RichFaces.
As I mentioned, blurbs reported:
> "In time, RichFaces is expected to be integrated into JBoss Enterprise
> Platforms, at which point it will be supported via Red Hat subscriptions."
which may lead to something like "free, open source" that you have to
pay/register/subscribe to access. I thought that fit in directly with your
postings regarding adoption considerations in open source.
