[ajug-members] What do you call this, and how do I learn?

I've been following tutorials here:

Especially hovering around BPEL and web services. As an Eclipse user
frustrated by all the plugins I have to install to get anywhere...I have to
say I'm impressed with NetBeans in general, and intrigued by the tools
included in the Enterprise module.

I'm very impressed, if not a bit overwhelmed, by the BPEL and everything
else I see. I know the WSDL is tied to web services, but what do you call
this whole way of doing things (BPEL, etc)? Is this all part of SOA or
something else? And where is the best place to start learning this way of
doing things?

I'm a bit lost in all the terminology...any starting points would be very
much appreciated!
