[ajug-members] If you were interviewing a Java architect...

Personally, I would look for the following:

- Understanding of the system specifications needed for a particular
java application.

- The design differences between high-transactional java systems
versus low transactional systems

- How simple is the design? If someone designs things overly complex I
would question whether the person has designed in reworld companies.
As an architect you need to be able to pass the "torch" so to speak to
the development team and have them maintain something. If you can
design a complex problem simply I would say you are on the right
track.

- Understanding of other technologies outside java and the realm of
just your application. There are sometimes java isn't the silver
bullet for everything (Did I just say that on the AJUG list)...

- How well you can sell an idea... As one of my past CTOs said to me,
"Don't confuse selling with doing"... You need buy in from everyone on
the team in most cases for the product to be delivered on time, etc...

- Also feeling out how far the rubberband stretches so to speak...
working with people's skillsets but also knowing how to push them to
succeed...

Those are some thoughts around skills people generally look for.
Anyone feel free to comment.

Hope this helps.

- Dan
