Hi all,
I left a full time job here in Florida for some contract work and the
contract is about to end pretty soon.
I'm really interested in moving to the Atlanta area, as the few times I've
been in the area, I've really liked it. (The job market seems a lot stronger
there as well compared to the Tampa market.)
If any of you have the time, I have a few questions.. (an e-mail off-list is
fine as well)
1) What are some good areas (location-wise) to consider working in around
Atlanta? Conversely, some areas to maybe stay away from? When I put in
searches for Atlanta jobs several areas come up.. Norcross, Roswell, etc.
Sometimes there can be a big disadvantage working in a certain area over
another (traffic, finding affordable housing, crime, etc).
2) What are the typical contract rates/ perm salary ranges for Senior Level
Developers? (I also, in theory, would be an Architect, but that name seems
to really vary as to what it means.) (The rates in the Tampa area seem to
be about 50/hr (when going W2 through an agency). 85-100K salary range.)
3) Average apartment rent? (I'm guessing about 1K/month ?)
4) Any companies or contracting firms that I should stay away from?
(Obviously might be best to e-mail this off-list.)
5) Any other markets in the Southeast that you guys think are pretty good
for Java jobs? I went to school in NC, I wouldn't mind maybe heading back to
the Carolinas either.
6) Lastly, any jobs leads would of course be appreciated as well.
Thanks for any information you can provide me.
