I think the latter ... that is, it will help you understand what  
makes up a JavaEE (J2EE is so 2005 :). However, keep in mind that  
Spring is, at it's heart, an enabling technology for other  
technologies (such as JDBC, object-relational mapping, web services,  
remoting, transactions, etc.). Just "knowing" Spring is not going to  
give you a deep knowledge of these technologies ... you will find  
that you will still need to learn more about enabled technologies.
