[ajug-members] Web applications and buttons

I am faced with the task of making GUI style buttons for web-pages(ie outlook style), 
I have used my own jpeg creating java application, but the result were large image files and still looked
ugly.  I was thinking about using the struts dynamic image generator.

What do you java gurus recommend:

I really need dynamic, programmatically or XML config file

I need text but possibly with color gradients or 3D images in the background

Around 70x20 size(32x20...in that range)

or another job where my work doesnt have to be seen or on display for others
