The Technical Architect provides technology leadership in the area of custom Java/J2EE development. The Technical Architect will focus on developing and delivering high quality enterprise applications, both as an individual contributor and as a part of a development team. He/she is responsible for creating clear and maintainable designs, code, as well as reviewing the code and designs of team members and correcting if necessary. 

The Technical Architect is expected to lead design and architecture discussions, and to actively participate in estimating, tasking, implementation efforts and status updates. He/she is also expected to shepherd code that has been developed through the development process and lead the efforts of planning/migrating the code into production systems efficiently.

The Technical Architect will be leading or participating in on-site project teams. This role requires excellent hands-on technical skills in Java/J2EE architecture and development. This person will be working independently on complex code and performance tuning.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
•Design, develop and maintain technology solutions for automotive retail management (POS and Backoffice) systems.
•Working with project and business analyst leads to develop and clarify in-depth technical requirements.
•Working with senior management to establish technical soundness of the solutions.
•Using and improving the productivity of the development processes.
•Leading design and architecture discussions.
•Working with management to estimate the level of effort, resource needs, and project duration.
•Establishing and enforcing coding standards.
•Evaluating tools and technologies and establishing technology standards 
•Troubleshooting and debugging applications and providing fixes in a timely manner.
•Providing technical leadership, clarity and direction for on-site and offshore development teams.

QUALIFICATIONS:
•Full understanding of Service Oriented Architecture and Object Oriented Programming
•Strong background in full lifecycle development using multiple platforms or languages
•Ability to interact with Management and Software Developers
•Hands-on skills in Java/J2EE architecture and development.
•Ability to interact at a technical and non-technical level with Infrastructure, Network, Development, BA and QA teams.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING: 
•BS or BA degree in a related field required, unless there is significant, relevant work experience.
 
EXPERIENCE:
•Minimum of eight (8) years in developing Java applications.
•Minimum of two (2) years in architecting large enterprise class projects/products
•Solid understanding and hands-on skills in J2EE architecture and design patterns.
•Experience with advanced OOA/OOD techniques to design enterprise applications leveraging industry best practices.
•Experience in UML modeling and use case driven development
•Experience in current versions of JBoss application server.
•Experience with XML related technologies including XSLT
•Good understanding and experience in relational databases (Sybase, Oracle or SQL Server)
•Experience in integrating J2EE applications with legacy systems.
•Knowledge of popular open source frameworks: Spring MVC, Hibernate
•Experience in security systems and frameworks (JAAS, LDAP)
•Full understanding of Service Oriented Architecture and Web Services: RESTful and SOAP
•Familiarity with web front-end development frameworks: ExtJS
•Experience with configuration management tasks and frameworks: Maven, Ant
•Experience with Business Process Management (BPM) frameworks: jBPM, Activiti
•System architecture and development experience in a high transaction/high availability systems.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:
•Sun Certified Java Programmer certification is desirable
