Scope of Responsibilities   
   
  The Network Management System engineering position entails developing system requirements and interface specifications for Ciena's ON-Center family of Network Management applications transitioning them from Ciena's EMS Data Element Management System.   The position involves interaction with many groups including marketing, product management, product development, system test, and other system engineering groups.

The successful candidate should have experience in requirements analysis, GUI design, and management interface design.
 
   
Specific Responsibilities   
   
  Develop system requirement for Ciena's ON-Center family of Network Management applications
Develop specifications for system interfaces provided by ON-Center applications (Graphical User Interface, EML-NML Interface)
Interact with marketing and product management to ensure customer requirements are being satisfied in the system requirements and to assist in allocation of system requirements to product releases
Interact with product development to review architectures and high-level designs to ensure system requirements are being met
Interact with system test to review that test procedures adequately verify the system's functionality
Interact with system groups in other organizations (i.e., equipment divisions) to allocate system requirements
 
   
Candidate Profile   
   
  Experience with requirement analysis through the cases
GUI design
TL-1, CORBA, SNMP, CMIP interface design
 
   
Desired Characteristics   
   
  Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
Ability to function well both independently and in a team environment
Experienced customer presentation skills
 
   
Education / Experience   
   
  BS in Comp Sci or EE, Masters preferred
7-10 years experience in the telecom or datacom industry with at least 3 years experience with NM applications in either a development or system engineering role
