The primary responsibilities of a Senior Application Architect in Western Union E-commerce team are to develop application architectures, perform system design, research, mentor and provide architectural advice to development teams. Candidates for this position will join a team of subject matter experts providing best practices on technology tracks for IT application development. The responsibilities also include:
Creating and delivering presentations, communicating technical and highly complex information to management.
Participate in planning processes and define technical strategy. With an understanding of the business domain and rationale, translate business strategy into a technical vision and strategy.
Perform research on technology trends, developing a technology roadmap for WU.
Identify, evaluate and recommend products and technologies that the enterprise will use to implement its application strategy.
Introduce standards and methodologies for project development.
Conduct architectural reviews; Lead and coordinate technical activities and artifacts throughout project development, including requirements management, analysis, jump-starting design with reference models, providing guidance and mentoring the development team.
Create and maintain architecture documentation as a knowledge base.
Perform hardware/software, security, interoperability, reusability, scalability and performance analysis.
Good knowledge of and hands-on experience with XML/XSL, Struts and J2EE.
Job Restrictions:

BS in Computer Science or related field is required, MS preferred. A minimum of 10 years of experience in software development, out of which a minimum of 5-6 years of experience in application architecture and design, and a minimum of 3 years in Web technologies, including J2EE and Web Services.
Extensive knowledge of Systems analysis and design, database design and modeling.
Expertise in object-oriented analysis and design. Broad understanding of J2EE design patterns. Understands the application development lifecycle well (from requirements through production) and understands different development processes (XP, waterfall, spiral, etc.).
Proficiency in Use Case design, and a UML modeling tool, such as Rational Rose.
Good understanding of Service Oriented Architectures.
Vast experience with J2EE application development, including servlets and JSPs, JDBC, and EJBs. Proficiency in the development environment, including IDE, web server, application server, source control system, unit-testing tool and defect management tool.
Proficient in application tuning and debugging and application security implementations.
Understands how to create scalable and highly available applications at the database, application server and messaging layers (using load balancing and clustering).
Ability to write tech documentation, follow best practices and proficiency with cross browser issues.
Experience in Rich Internet Application technology (AJAX), Unix/Linux, Hibernate, Tiles and Spring Framework is a great plus.
