Software Engineer
Description:
The Engineer is responsible for designing, developing and implementing software components, as required, to support the technical capabilities of all of The Client’s Application Offerings. To be successful in this role one must be able to work effectively in a fluid, fast-paced environment. This role requires good communication skills, both with fellow engineers and business contacts. In addition, the successful Engineer must be able to work with minimal supervision on multiple concurrent projects.
Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
• Develop new or maintain existing reusable software components based on specifications
• Develop, implement and maintain unit tests of components
• Participate in the design of new or changing components
• Participate in functional test planning and testing for components
• Participate in problem solving and troubleshooting for components
• Share knowledge by effectively documenting work and training/advising other engineers how to best leverage components
• To promote software components usage and general reuse practices across all of the client’s application teams
• Stay current with changes in the technical area of expertise
• Develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of The Client’s component inventory
• Work with the team to ensure the quality and consistency of components
• Respond quickly and effectively to production issues and taking responsibility for seeing those issues through resolution.
Qualifications:
• Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience
• 3-6 years experience in relevant technologies
• Good knowledge of and experience with component oriented architectures, user interface design patterns, web technologies, and development methodologies.
• Ability to work on multiple projects and be flexible to adapt to any given situation
• Good knowledge in Object Oriented analysis, design and programming.
• Experience using automated unit testing technologies (TestNG, JUnit, Selenium, etc).
• Possess basic project management skills to track all project work.
• Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing to all levels of the organization
• Exceptional customer service attitude and interpersonal skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Experience using configuration control and defect tracking tools (Subversion & Test Director).
• Good working knowledge of at least 2 of the following 3 technologies:
o JSF or other MVC web framework (Struts, SpringMVC)
o Seam or similar frameworks like Spring
o Maven or Ant
• Additional Skills Required:
o J2EE, in particular EJB3 and Servlets
o HTML, Ajax, Object-Oriented JavaScript
o UNIX – Solaris preferred
o IDE (IntelliJ IDEA, Eclipse, NetBeans)
• Highly Desirable Skills:
o JBoss Seam
o Maven
o JBoss AS or Apache
o Popular Open Source Libraries like Apache Commons
o FAST (search engine)
o CSS
o Axis
o 3rd party integration (Versign, Mapquest, Paypal, Yahoo Maps)
o Large scale web application development
