JOB DESCRIPTION: Supporting the Fleet Numerical Meteorology Oceanography Center's (FNMOC's) Data Team in designing, developing, and implementing operational data ingests and applications for a variety of environmental satellites. Support the operationalizing and storing of available satellite data in various databases including Geo-databases (GIS-compatible) to support FNMOC customers. Provide programming support for the satellite data and conventional data teams Web services projects. Scope: Write and maintain software utilizing Web services including performing software design development, modifications and updates; Perform requirements analysis; Prepare conceptual, architectural, preliminary, and detailed designs; perform/conduct coding/unit testing and module/subsystem testing; Perform software/hardware integration and system integration; Complete system testing and acceptance testing; Deploy new software releases and maintain software; Examine and validate software output ensuring it performs correctly as designed; Ensure software performs efficiently and meets timing requirements using FNMOC standards and protocols such as, but not limited to, technologies for exchange of data via http/s; Integrate new satellite and conventional data into existing applications; Interface applications to operational software control and monitoring systems; Assist in troubleshooting and resolving problems.
Desired Skills:
• Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and spatial data repositories
• Experience using one of the following GIS tools: ESRI, Oracle Spatial, Mapquest or MapInfo is a plus
• Has developed and/or supported applications running in J2EE application servers
• WebLogic Portal experience a plus

Required Skills:
• BS or MS/MBA in Computer Science or related discipline plus 8+Yrs of experience.
• Previous development experience using JSP, Java, Servlets
• Possesses excellent troubleshooting skills
• Familiar with SOA, J2EE application servers, XML, PKI, and web technologies
• Understanding of portlets and portal technologies
• Familiarity in the configuration and operation of Solaris and Linux or other UNIX flavored systems
• Familiar with XML, web technologies and associated protocols (HTTP, FTP, DNS, WWW, SSH, Telnet)
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment interacting with multiple teams and performing multiple tasks simultaneously
