Our client has an immediate need for multiple Java Programmers for contract-hire positions (5). They are a Big-5 Consulting Firm currently working on the development of a novel grid to support public health nationally. This is a chance to work alongside some of the brightest minds in the business on an exciting new project.

Start date: ASAP

Duration/End Date: Approximately 6 months, Right-to-Hire possibility for strong candidates

Skillset: Java programming, Linux, Web Services

Detailed Job Description: Developer to support our public health applied research team in the development of a novel grid to support public health nationally.

Skills as follows: 

Crucial

* Java familiarity. Most of the coding is Java based. One application has some Python extension capabilities but the cores were designed with Java and most of the interfaces were designed to work through Axis (A Java powered web-services container). Since several of these grid toolkits are bleeding edge, programmers will be required to ramp-up quickly and troubleshoot a myriad of configuration issues.

* Unix/Linux/Posix command line familiarity. All of these toolkits are configured and tested on various flavors of Linux, so familiarity with various shell commands and tools like SSH will be necessary.

Highly desired

* Web Services. SOAP messaging, WS-Security, AXIS, XML-Spy. Experience with these concepts is a huge plus, especially if we want to start enhancing the various toolkits.

* Enterprise coding experience. These will be applications that utilize resources spread across a network adopting a service oriented architecture... while it won't be limited to client - server models, code will need to be made robust and responsive enough to deal with outages and delays and remote data.

Nice to Have

* Database experience. SQL queries, JDBC connections, and the ability to make code talk to various flavors of SQL compliant databases, and the ability to set up a few open-source databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) for testing will be handy.
