The Senior Software Engineer is responsible for defining, designing, implementing and testing both core- and non-core Silverpop software applications. Additional responsibilities include third tier support to Silverpop customer managers and customer support teams. The Senior Software Engineer will also engage as a team mentor for the Engineering team where applicable.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Define, design, implement and test software applications using a variety of technologies, including, but not limited to: Java/J2EE, Oracle PL/SQL, JavaScript, HTML and scripting languages
• Responsible for own schedules and communications of the status of all tasks
• Must be able to work with minimal direct supervision
• Will assist team members in design discussions and decisions.
• Will perform code and design reviews with other team members
• Will interact with the QA team to: define test plans and test data; identify reproduce and document defects; fix and verify defects
• Interact daily with Product team to clarify requirements or suggest changes during the implementation of the enhancements
• Interact with the design team to identify, design and implement the user interface portions of the Silverpop applications
• May be assigned non-core Silverpop software development projects, under the direction of a Project Manager. These engagements may require meeting the customer to help define the requirements, document the requirements and set customer expectations
• On a rotating basis will provide third tier support to Silverpop customer managers and customer support teams. This may involve direct communications with customers to understand their issues and resolve them. While on rotation, must be available during defined support hours, excluding a lunch period
• Will communicate with Network Operations to identify and solve production equipment or software issues
• As a member of the technical team, the individual must work to keep his/her technical knowledge up to date and actively work to apply this knowledge to constantly improve Silverpop's products and solutions
• Additionally, the individual must be willing to serve as a mentor and advisor to other team members. The mentor role can be both formally requested by the individual's manager as well as personally driven when a need or opportunity is observed.
• Must always act with the utmost professionalism, maturity and have the ability to work through disagreements in a positive manner.

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent preferred. Must have 5 or more years of related work experience.
BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE
• Advanced Java programming, including JSP, Servlet, JDBC and application servers required
• Stored procedure writing, PL/SQL preferred (if Data-oriented Engineer)
• Basic HTML coding required
• Proficient in JavaScript/Ajax required (if UI-oriented Engineer)
• Proficiency with some scripting languages such as bourne shell, Perl, PHP etc. required
• Basic database design required
• Must have strong written and verbal skills
• Must be able to communicate technical issues clearly to individuals with various levels of technical understanding
• Must have strong interpersonal skills when working with non-technical individuals, including customers
• Must be comfortable working with executives, board members and industry experts to further Silverpop's position in the marketplace
• Prior team mentoring experience preferred
• Struts desired
• Windows, Linux/Unix systems administration preferred
• Network administration skills preferred
• Understanding of SMTP, MIME and email technologies preferred
• Oracle Database management preferred
• JUnit or other testing methodologies preferred
• C, C++ or other programming languages preferred
