Spherion is seeking a Technical Project Manager with a background managing Java projects.
Contract-to-full-time
6 months contract-to-full-time.
Summary:
The Sr Project Manager has overall responsibility and accountability for the successful completion and delivery of projects for the company. Specifically, the Project Manager leads cross-functional teams to enable client/internal project delivery, coordinates with Client Services and Department Leads to ensure the project meets client/internal requirements, and guides the project team to solve issues and achieve goals. This position is a member of the Project Management Office (PMO).
Responsibilities:
Working under the direction of the PMO Director, this position will support PMO processes, tools, and strategies for the company. The primary responsibility is to manage the successful implementation of mission critical, key corporate projects that require IT and business resources. This includes, but is not limited to, creating, maintaining, and reporting the project plan and its associated risks, issues, change requests, etc.; scheduling and facilitating weekly project team status meetings, providing status reports and escalations to management, and conducting post-implementation reviews. This position is responsible for oral presentations/updates to senior and executive management.
Project Managers manage (and are directly accountable for) projects within the total body of work at the Company, which are characterized as interdepartmental, high risk, large scope, strict deadlines, demanding and critical in nature, and can have a client or internal focus. This is a pressure position and requires a Type A "driver" personality type. The right candidate will be assertive but professional, not afraid to push to make things happen.
Education and Experience:
Four year college degree, 8-10 years technical professional/IT experience, and 3-5 years project management experience are required. Experience managing medium to large projects with proven ability to deliver mission critical projects is required. Must possess exceptional organizational, communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills, and have an ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Prior experience with Process Improvement is strongly preferred. PMP certification is preferred, but not in lieu of experience. Management experience is preferred. Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field is preferred. Experience managing Java resources is required. Experience managing Java projects is required. Experience working in a Java , J2EE environment is required.
