Job Title: Sr. Java Developer
Location: Atlanta
Business Name: WeTheCitizens
Email: russell at wethecitizens.com
Job Description:
----------------
Are you on LinkedIn, Facebook, or Myspace? Are you fascinated by the social networking phenomenon? Have you ever volunteered for a non-profit or political campaign? WeTheCitizens has developed a proprietary technology called “Social Mobilization” that leverages the power of a social network to mobilize offline volunteer and grassroots efforts that are then tracked online. Never before has there been a way to measure the personal impact of a volunteer’s efforts in support of a cause. The applications of this technology are endless, already garnering attention from Movie Studios, Non-Profits, Alumni Groups, Fortune 500 Companies, Political Campaigns and more. What’s the benefit? Early successes have shown that this technology can reduce the workload of running a campaign or grassroots initiative by roughly 50%. The impact is astounding. What’s the opportunity? Become a part of an early stage company already recognized on a national level that is poised for explosive growth in one of today’s hottest fields.
Description
WeTheCitizens is seeking TWO experienced Java developers to contribute to the architecture and development of our "Social Mobilization" platform and mentor other developers in the creation of reliable large-scale web applications. This is a senior level position reporting to the Vice President of Product Development.
Job Responsibilities:
------------------------------
* Application Architecture - design and influence other developers to maintain a consistent, scalable, and maintainable application architecture.
* Process Enhancement - we use the Scrum agile development process, automated unit testing, and conduct design and code reviews periodically, but are always looking for insights from our team to further improve how we build our software.
* Software Development - this is a hands-on development position, and this developer will be highly involved in the development of enhancement and new features.
* Technical Leadership - this engineer will be the most senior engineer on our technical team, and will use this knowledge and experience in the development of our software and in mentoring other developers.
Key Skills:
----------------
* Large-scale web application development - while the individual technologies are nice to know, a sound understanding of the development of performant, maintainable web applications is the most important skill for this position.
* Java 5
* JBoss
* AJAX (Dojo, DWR, Prototype, and ad hoc)
* Spring
* Hibernate
* PostgreSQL
* JMS
* Data Warehousing
* Experience with Social Networks
* Early-stage company experience
* 5+ years of programming experience, with increasing levels of responsibility
Professionalism is expected in all of the usual areas - interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication, time management, attention to detail, attire, etc.
Compensation includes competitive salary and an attractive stock option package.
What We Do:
--------------------
WeTheCitizens (http://www.wethecitizens.com) uses the phrase "Social Mobilization" to describe our hosted software platform that provides an organization, such as a political campaign, with a branded social network dedicated to their cause, leveraging social relationships online and offline to grow their base of supporters and mobilize them as volunteers. The software has been successfully used on campaigns at all levels, and is currently being deployed for a campaign in support of a Presidential Candidate for the 2008 election. Its effectiveness as a grassroots marketing tool is equally appealing to the entertainment and non-profit industries.
We're a relatively young, growing company, looking to recruit the brightest and best talent in town to work on interesting and challenging solutions in a startup environment.
