JOB SUMMARY:
This is the senior GUI development position in a team of embedded developers dedicated to ongoing development and support. This person will take direction from a Technical Lead located in Canada. This position carries the responsibility for the maintenance of Configuration GUI.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Review vendor’s design and code for completeness, technical accuracy, requirement satisfaction and conformance to coding standards;
Contribute to the design of GUI applications as specified by the requirements with a focus on cost-effective and maintainable solutions;
Implement and test approved GUI designs;
Collaborate with QA to develop and execute detailed test plans;
Support QA during product verification and system integration;
Manage and maintain source code and development systems;
Proactively make recommendations to improve product robustness, performance, usability and maintainability of product;
Review product documentation and user manuals;
Ensure accuracy of implementation and timeliness of delivered assignments;
Supervise and monitor the work of other GUI developers that may be employed to address peak work loads;
Work closely with other members of the team to guarantee complete integration and support for Software and Hardware and to assure product’s integrity and safety.
REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of 5 years of HMI software development experience is required, in addition to the following:
Extensive experience with XML and schema development;
Experience in the following areas:
Java, Java Applets, Java Swing, Perl
Apache, Common Gateway Interface (CGI)
Programming Java in Linux and Windows environments.
Web applications and Web services
Multi-user Client/Server architecture
Detailed knowledge of XML, XPath, regular expressions
Detailed knowledge of Object Oriented programming and design
Proven experience developing HMIs for complex embedded systems
Proven experience in writing requirements specifications, detailed design documents and associated test plans for embedded GUI applications.
Well-developed problem solving skills with proven ability for root-cause analysis
Resourceful self-starter with demonstrated proactive work style; willing to take ownership of difficult issues and show persistence in resolving them
Experience with effort estimation, schedule development, maintenance and reporting
Excellent written and verbal English communication skills (candidate will communicate with remote team by phone and email)
DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
Experience coaching and mentoring other software developers
Experience in designing XML schemas and using XML to interface between multiple applications/repositories
Rational tools such as RequisitePro, ClearQuest, and Rose
Experience with installation tools such as InstallShield, or WISE
Knowledge of configuration management and version control systems such as CVS, VSS or ClearCase
Knowledge of power system automation protocols such as DNP, UCA and IEC protocols such as 60870-5/101/103/104 and 61850
Experience using a standard modeling language such as UML
Experience in data modeling (including conceptual, logical, and physical models) for client/server and Internet applications on mid to large software development projects
Knowledge of Windows security, SSL, digital certificates, smartcards, etc.
Documentation management systems
Backup/restore and recovery system
ACADEMIC/EDUATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Diploma or degree from recognized technical institute with established reputation for producing high-quality software developers
Nice to Have: A university degree in electrical or computer engineering
Nice to Have: Professional Engineer Status (able to authenticate/approve/stamp technical documents)
