Technical Architect
 

Technical Architects are responsible for designing technology solutions that support the overall Product Technology strategy. The Technical Architect must evaluate project requirements and produce high-level design deliverables that enable project teams to develop products that are robust, flexible, scalable, secure, and that support the strategic initiatives of the enterprise. The Technical Architect must analyze, document and promote standards and patterns that represent the established architectural goals. Technical Architects are also responsible for researching, demonstrating and providing guidance on emerging technologies and industry trends. The architect must maintain expert knowledge of internal and external systems. 

 

Responsibilities (include but not limited to):

Advisor to business leadership 
Advisor to IT project teams 
Technical thought leader 
Change agent, evangelizing appropriate evolution in IT 
Develop high-level estimates in support of business case development 
Work with project teams to understand business requirements, project goals and identify appropriate architecture plans 
Produce appropriate design artifacts representing desired changes in technical architecture 
Evaluate potential solutions and promote consensus among technical staff 
Participate in technical design reviews 
Advocate and enforce adoption of architecture standards (technical design patterns, canonical data models, etc.) 
Participate in the definition and documentation of application development principles, standards, and best practices and work with others to ensure their adoption and usage 
Participate in application rationalization and the development of multi-year application architecture roadmaps 
Evaluate emerging technologies and the evolution of current technologies to define a roadmap for the future which increases the value of IT to the business 
Other responsibilities, as required to support the company’s growth
 

Knowledge & Skills:

Ability and desire to work with experienced IT and business professionals in a dynamic, ambiguous environment 
Ability to evaluate technology and assess it’s applicability in a pragmatic way 
Ability to identify and mitigate key issues and risks in major IT initiatives, and in ongoing operations
Ability to discuss business requirements and articulate complex technical concepts in simple terms
Comprehensive understanding of information technology best practice, especially regarding internet technologies 
Demonstrated ability to produce effective system design artifacts 
Excellent technical judgment
 

Qualifications:

At least 7 years of successful IT delivery experience, especially in Internet environments 
Proven experience as a Technical Lead on large-scale software implementations with design and hands-on development of open-source based J2EE Enterprise software 
Experience with multi-tier enterprise architecture environments 
Knowledge of systems design methodologies, techniques and tools 
Knowledge of design patterns related to technical architecture 
Familiarity with one or more development methodologies (RUP, UML, XP, etc.) 
Experience implementing software application frameworks and patterns 
Experience delivering content through multiple channels (Mobile, Widgets, IPTV, RSS, etc.) 
Experience with Rich Internet Application (RIA) development tools (AJAX, Flex, Laszlo, etc.) 
Familiarity with Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Web Analytics and Multivariate Testing strategies 
Experience in high-volume user environments where scalability is a primary concern 
Knowledge of Service Orientated Architectures (SOA) and other Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) technologies and patterns 
Strong experience with UNIX-based operating systems 
Experience leveraging scripting languages for productivity 
Thorough understanding of relational database technologies 
Education: A BS in Computer Science or equivalent work experience 
Sun Java Certification is preferred
