Description: 
The Java Developer works closely with other members of the Connecture development team to deliver high quality web-based sales support solutions for the health insurance industry. The Java DeveloperÂ’s primary responsibility is for presentation-tier and middle-tier development tasks. The Java Developer candidate must possess strong problem solving and communication skills in addition to having a customer-focused mindset and an understanding of the importance of accountability and attention to detail. 
Roles and Responsibilities: 
-Assists with all presentation-tier and middle-tier development and customization 
-Responsible for maintenance and administration of pre-production code environments 
-Interacts daily with project managers, business analysts, database developers and other web developers, gaining experience that will enable him/her to operate at a Senior Java Developer level on future projects 
-Designs software applications using HTML, Javascript, XML, JSP and Java amongst others 
-Writes specifications to meet client requirements for applications. 
-Works with client and other engineers to program and code applications according to specifications 
-Works with client and other engineers to test applications (functional, performance and load) according to specifications 
-Understands and works from requirements - use cases, UML diagrams and prototypes 
-Provides local and on-site training and application support to clients 
-Manages own time and expenses to help ensure project profitability 

Other Preferred Skills and Experience: 
-GUI desktop development experience. 
-Insurance Domain Experience. 
-LDAP Experience. 
-BEA WebLogic and/or IBM WebSphere experience. 
-Java Certified Programmer a plus 
 

 
Required Skills: 
-4 yr degree (BS in CS, CIS, MIS, Mathematics, Engineering or other hard science) (or equivalent experience) 
-Minimum of 2 years development or architect experience in which the largest part of that time has been spent delivering web-based applications 
-Minimum of 2 years of proven programming experience with one or more object oriented programming languages (Java, Delphi, C++, etc.) 
-Minimum of 2 years working in a UNIX or Windows NT/2000 environment. 
-Relational Database experience (Microsoft SQL Server, IBM DB2, Oracle). 
-Proficient in analyzing software requirements and documenting technical specifications for a web-based solution 
-Experience with the full software development life cycle, with emphasis on design and documentation activities 
-Client-focused attitude with excellent communication skills, both written and verbal 
-Strong problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to clearly communicate and share solutions with fellow team members 
-Effective listening and problem solving skills 
-Recent experience in a software organization with work cycles and product complexities similar to those at Connecture. 
 

 
Education: 
4 yr degree (BS in CS, CIS, MIS, Mathematics, Engineering or other hard science) (or equivalent experience)
