Qualifications: You must be proficient in JAVA programming, J2EE programming (servlets and JSPs), Oracle SQL and PL/SQL programming and analysis, JDBC, XML constructs, HTML and DHTML, fundamentals of Solaris, Korn Shell development, Cold Fusion development and familiar with the Mac OSX and Applescript. You should possess the ability to establish an understanding of the publishing business components and processes in support of the business requirements. Publishing, media, and/or digital asset management experience is a plus.
Three or more years experience with digital video and audio systems development and/or research required, with a strong understanding of the broadcast video domain and emerging technologies within the domain (including experience with image coding techniques). Post-graduate research in video and digital imaging strongly preferred.
Deep theoretical knowledge and six or more years practical experience in object-oriented practices, languages, technologies, and tools including current methodologies and frameworks, especially Java and J2EE. Practical working knowledge of relational database systems.
At least five years experience with J2EE applications environments, required including solid experience with messaging systems (including JMS). Strong working knowledge of XML/XSL, Javascript, and DHTML required.
Bachelors degree in highly analytical field required; Masters in video and digital imaging strongly preferred.
Duties: This position is responsible for managing the development of software for content ingestion, including metadata. The position is responsible for the distribution of content on different content platforms to optimize market and the monetization CNNs and TBS content across all distribution channels.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILTIES
Lead the design, development and operation of multiple development and support groups responsible for numerous software applications that provide Media Asset Management (MAM) and Digital Video Library functions to the broadcast and online networks. Working closely with senior Media Operations and Library staff, the Director is responsible for creating and evolving development plans that are innovative, aligned with business goals, and cost effective. Once planned, the Director creates the necessary development teams required to execute the development of the projects, and manages these projects through their full life cycle. In addition, the Director works closely to constantly assure existing legacy systems function properly and are adapted as necessary to meet new requirements and to maintain mission critical site operations on a 7x24x365 basis.
Define the ingestion, metadata, rights and distribution methodology, process and specifications for all MAM assets. Responsible for operation systems to include recording, preparing and airing material. Will also be responsible for managing the largest news archive in the world, CNN news archives.
Manage the Account relationships for all online and wireless licensees and partners. Responsible for media monitoring, feed schedule operations and archival systems.
