Principal Consultant 
Job Outline
Supports the deployment of products by consulting with partners and end customers on the design, implementation and operation of  software solutions.  Advises on strategy and best practice throughout the project lifecycle, for requirements definition, system architecture, project deployment, acceptance and operational transition.  Participates in pre-sales activity, including proof of concepts. Provides direction and guidance to other team members. Contributes to the development and enhancement of _________ methods, processes and tools.
Responsibilities
To provide subject matter expert consultancy to clients (customers and partners) on the following aspects of project implementation:
• Positioning, purpose, deployment and functionality of products 
• Project scoping 
• Requirements capture 
• Project milestone and resource planning 
• Technical risk analysis and mitigation planning 
• Change management 
• Business transition and go-live planning 
To lead teams of 2-6 people implementing software for internal, direct or client-led deployments, coaching and mentoring project team members to ensure successful delivery.
To follow  best practice for technical solutions and project implementation.
To manage the following commercial aspects of assignments:
• To perform assigned tasks within agreed effort and timescale, communicating risks and issues that may impact project success appropriately 
• To manage changes to scope of assignments through an agreed change management process 
• To work with clients to ensure that resources are included as necessary in project resource plans 
• To identify and communicate additional sales opportunities appropriately 
Proactively to continue to develop technical, consulting and implementation skills, including:
• To achieve expert level knowledge of  products and processes 
• To learn about the wider OSS and telecoms environment and  position in it 
• To keep up to date with trends and new developments in telecoms technology and practice 
To maintain professional standards of behavior at all times, including:
• To develop and foster good working relationships with clients and  staff 
• To have a ‘can do’ attitude to undertaking varied and stretching assignments 
• To be flexible in meeting customers’ and partners’ needs and project deadlines 
• To be prepared to work on site at customers’ or partners’ premises within the region, with occasional out of region travel if required 
• To carry out administrative tasks including weekly timesheets, status reports and expense reports in a timely, complete and accurate manner 
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
The following are typically required:
• Education to graduate level (or equivalent) in a technical subject 
• 7-10 years relevant work-related experience, including 4 or more years in application software implementation 
• Proven experience as technical lead or technical project manager on commercial/industrial software deployment projects 
• Knowledge of project management techniques and tools 
• Experience of customer-facing work, able to work confidently in the customer environment in the role of subject matter expert 
The following would be an advantage:
• Experience in the implementation of products 
• Experience in the implementation of other telecoms inventory, provisioning or activation products 
• Knowledge of telecoms technologies, equipment and processes 
• Knowledge of OSS architecture and components
