Speaker: Bruno Souza (http://today.java.net/pub/au/88)
Date: May 15th (3rd Tuesday)
Location: Holiday Inn Select (details below)
Networking time: 6:30 PM
Presentation time: 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM
We found Bruno wandering around the Moscone Center during JavaOne
proudly wearing his Brazilian flag. Bruno has been the number one
Java evangelist in Brazil as the President of the SouJava Java Users
Society. Bruno is currently the NetBeans Community Manager and will be
visiting Atlanta on May 15th to provide us with insights into many of
the recent announcements related to Java such as the move to open
source.
We are always looking for those individuals who would like to provide
a 10 to 15 minute mini-presentation and demonstration on one of their
projects. Showing off some of the clever techniques required to
produce a real production ready application. At our recent Open
Spaces event (thank you Barry for a GREAT event) it became obvious
that many people had worked on some very interesting projects. Your
experiences with specific techniques and technologies is tremendously
valuable to the overall group. Please step forward and share one of
your projects with us.
Open call for input into future speaker selection:
We need to plan the remaining part of 2007 and I would like your
assistance in finding future speakers for the Atlanta Java Users
Group. Please propose speakers that you would like to hear from (our
yourself if you have a topic that you would like to present).
Unfortunately my "day job" is eating up way too many of my nights and
weekends :-) and I've not personally had as many free hours to chase
down possible speakers for the group. I have recently connected with
folks from Interface21 as well as some notable No Fluff Just Stuff
speakers but we'll need many more folks to properly layout an overall
schedule.
In addition, we need to begin the planning for Spring 2008 DevCon.
Many people (speakers and attendees) have asked me when we can get
this event back on the schedule and my plan is to shoot for April
2008. We always need help with making sure we have the right kinds of
speakers and with pre-registration handling. AJUG's primary
volunteers are currently people who no longer live in the state (in
one case, he lives outside the country). We'll need to develop some
additional volunteers who can carry us forward.
I look forward to seeing all of you tomorrow night. The 3rd Tuesday
is always one of my favorite days of the month!
Sincerely,
Burr
