Dear AJUG Members,
We have our last meeting of the year scheduled on the 19th. I look
forward to seeing you there. Since it is the last meeting of the year,
let's have beer! Also, please go ahead and sign up for the Sun Tech
Days Event http://developers.sun.com/events/techdays/atlanta NOW!
Topic: Maven 2
Date: 12/19/2006
Time: 7:00 PM
Place: Holiday Inn Select (directions below)
Meeting description:
In a nutshell, Maven [http://maven.apache.org/] is a popular open
source project hosted at Apache which aims, much like Ant, at helping
developers build and deploy their applications. However, unlike Ant,
Maven takes a whole new approach to project configuration and build
execution.
Over the last few years, Maven has seen wide adoption among open
source projects such as Struts, MyFaces, XWork, and many others as the
choice for building and distributing their software.
So, if you are new to Maven, you might be wondering, how is Maven
different from Ant? Why should I use Maven? And how do I get
started? James Mitchell will attempt to answer all these questions
and more.
Bio:
James Mitchell is a freelance Java Consultant based in Atlanta, GA.
James specializes in building Java-based Web Applications for numerous
clients in and around Atlanta. James holds committer and PMC (Project
Management Committee) member status on the Apache Struts, Apache
MyFaces, Apache Shale, and OpenSymphony XWork open source projects.
James also serves as a technical editor for O'Reilly and
McGraw-Hill/Osborne for several Struts books.
In addition to developing Struts and JSF applications, James assists
other open source communities with Maven related issues and can be
spotted, when time allows, helping users on many of the community
mailing lists in which he serves.
