Sorry to hijack the thread here, but was wondering if anyone could
give me their opinions on _getting_ certified.  (I'm talking here
mainly about the first tier "Programmer" certification.)

Specifically, other than exposing the developer to things he might
not otherwise have delved in with Java, is there a tangible (read:
$$$) benefit to the certification?  Is it opening doors that would
otherwise not be open?  Are employers filtering on that criteria at
all?

Thoughts?
