You are exactly right Sean. There is no such thing as "just" a Java developer/programmer. You do have to specialize. A Java developer has to have a knowledge of databases, security, connectivity, networking, operating systems. Then you can talk about Web Services, JMS, JNDI, Struts, Web Development, JAAS, EJB's, etc. No one is an expert on all these plus many other areas that were not mentioned. Tell that to most managers, personnel and human resource departments and clients though.
