RE: tomcat runs at start up.

great, that worked, thanks! now the question is howcome all of a sudden did tomcat start as service. i know i didn't do anything intentionally. any ideas what i could have accidentally done? just curious.

Yes they are related ... your Tomcat is running as an NT Service ... if you want to start it manually then remove it as a service. This would be done from Control Panel -> Services. Basically, the error is telling you that some other process is already using 8080 -- that is, its the instance of Tomcat running as the service. If you wanted to, I believe it is possible to have multiple instances of Tomcat running -- each listening to a different port.

Subject: tomcat runs at start up.

Lately i have been experiencing some problems starting up tomcat. I get the following error
Catalina.start: LifecycleException: null.open: java.net.BindException: Address
in use: JVM_Bind:8080
LifecycleException: null.open: java.net.BindException: Address in use: JVM_Bin
d:8080

i am on a win NT machine. ever since this happened, i have noticed that tomcat.exe is running as one of the processes, when i check throught the task manager, and it runs from start up. are these two related, and what should i do to solve this problem.

Thannks
Poorav
