RE: firewalls - Netgear router with...
Netgear router along with Zone Alarm Pro. or the free
version of Zone Alarm. www.zonealarm.com works great
plenty of flexibility - works great.

I've used several different firewalls over the past year. The first being a
linux box. Though fast and reliable, keeping up with linux from an admin
standpoint was more than I wanted to devote time to, but nor was it
probably entirely necessary. I then went to a Linksys router which I
loathed. I have DSL/PPPOE though, not cable. Seems there are a lot of
issues with Linksys and PPPOE. I then switched to a Netgear router, which
is based of off a linux OS it seems, and that thing has run reliably and
flawlessly for nearly 2 years. It is very configurable in terms of filters
and such, much the way a linux OS would be configured for a firewall. I
highly recommend them for the less than $100 you can pick one up for.
