WANTED: Process Engineer

Hello,

Would you like to be part of an innovative Open Source team working on a suite of J2EE web-based products? Are you an excellent organizer, presenter, and technical writer with a deep understanding of software team workflows, processes, and the Software Development Life Cycle? Are you proactive, energetic, and motivated to make a difference? Do you have a solid, high-level understanding of the latest Java technologies and software engineering tools? Would you like to give Microsoft a good kick in the derrière? :)

Wanted

======

We are seeking a Process Engineer to examine and document our workflow and other processes to maximize team efficiency and facilitate rapid application development.

Which skills do I need?

=================

A good grounding in the Rational Unified Process (RUP), eXtreme Programming (XP), and the Software Engineering Institute’s Capability Maturity Model (CMM) would be very helpful, as well as a good understanding of CVS and the workflows in a software organization.  If you’ve developed or implemented processes in an organization before and are good at succinctly creating, capturing, communicating, and evangelizing processes throughout an organization, this job is for you!

Who are you?

==========

We are Noumenaut Software, a Java-centric Open Source team: http://www.noumenaut.com. We are in the initial stages of a very major effort to create an entire suite of free web-based Java products, from web journaling to project management, real-time collaboration, and scheduling. We call these products the Noumenaut Suite, a tightly integrated collection of web-based applications comprising a “collaboration portal.” Our first major application, presently under development, is Skribe 1.0, for web journaling.

How much does it pay?

=================

$0 per hour, $0 overtime, no vacation, no holidays, and no weekends, either. :)

How much time is involved?

====================

Five hours per week. Unless you’re part of our commando team, in which case “five” is the number of hours allocated to sleep per week. :)

Are you insane!? WHY would I want to volunteer!?

====================================

We feel that there’s enormous potential for an Open Source Java suite of highly useful products. We have recently been joined by the award-winning Irish web designer Matt Hutchinson (http://www.ijug.org) as well as Sue Spielman, writer, speaker, industry insider, and President of Switchback Software (http://www.switchbacksoftware.com). In the future, we will continue to add a wide range of interested individuals, from students interested in jumping into J2EE development to industry VIP’s. We also plan to publicize our products very widely. This may provide significant career and networking opportunities to members of the Noumenaut team. It will also help anyone who wants to learn J2EE to do so in the context of the full SDLC, from capturing requirements to creating UML diagrams, configuring server components, constructing code, and shipping products.

In addition, Noumenaut Software represents a highly dynamic and challenging environment for the individual who wants to contribute his or her time and talents to help create a suite of products that can benefit all of us, as well as a world-class Open Source organization. The challenge stems from the engineering complexity, organizational challenges, and the human factors. But that’s why Noumenaut Software will appeal to the outsiders, visionaries, and seers just past the border of conventionality, far outside the focal point of the mainstream, in the land of innovation and dreams where engineering and artistry fuse into a unique creative production.

How do I apply?

============

If you’re interested in the position, please e-mail stevej@noumenaut.com. Feel free to attach a résumé, if you like.

You bet we’re insane, so if you’re one of us, come along! :-)

We hope you’ll join us,

Steve Jovanovic

Director of Engineering
