RE: JSP, Servlet and EJB hosting

I sell web software that requires my customers to find an ISP that can host
a JSP/Servlet application (but not EJB). I've had some mixed experiences
with a few providers.

My advice is definitely to find a small local ISP that values customer
service and is staffed with intelligent people. If they don't currently
offer the hosting you require, they'll probably be willing to install and
learn just about any (open source or free) software to win your business.
Offer to pay them a little bit more, but expect really great customer
service in return. I much prefer to spend my time working with the ISP
diagnose and solve problems than waiting for an email response from a larger
provider where I'm just a number. Because every application is unique, I
feel that great customer service is far more important than app server
experience.

However, if you do want cheap hosting and are willing to just be a number,
here are two I've had experience with (for JSP and Servlets):

Digital Space (www.digitalspace.net): JSP and Servlet hosting on Tomcat for
less than $10/month. They have lots of customers and deal with lots of
different technologies. However, if your requirements don't exactly fit
their standard setup, you'll get frustrated quickly. In my particular
experience, MySQL was incorrectly configured and they never cared to fix it
to work with the mm.mysql driver.

Reinvent (www.reinventinc.com): JSP and Servlet hosting on New Atlanta's
ServletExec. I'm mostly pleased with the performance and ease of use of
their app server setup. However, it takes them a while to reply to my
emails, and they don't always answer the phone. Regardless, I think these
guys are a good value and would recommend them.

Hey all,

I was hoping that some of you had a preferred host that you used with JSP,
Servlet, and EJB hosting. I found a place called
http://myservlethosting.com/ but I have not actually used them yet.

Anyway, interested in your responses.

Kevin
