Sun Educational Services is in the process of revising the Sun Certified Programmer for the Java 2 Platform, using the latest JDK 1.4. If you are an expert in using the basic syntax and structure of the Java[tm] programming language this is your opportunity to get involved in the creation of a certification exam. The current phase of development is a survey, called a blueprint, that helps us weigh the testing objectives. The survey will help us focus our test development on areas most critical to the job role. INSTRUCTIONS ON COMPLETING THE SURVEY I have attached our Java based Survey tool. It will take about 30-45 minutes to complete the survey. Your participation in this survey will help insure that we are testing on the appropriate areas and that the result of our efforts will be a quality certification that sets an industry standard for Java Programming. Survey Instructions: 1) Create a new directory (folder) for the survey executables (attached files). 2) Copy the attached files into the directory you created. - Ensure you have the files, the Surveyor.jar and the template file: * JavaProgrammerJDK1_4.srvytmplt 3) Make sure you have a Java environment in which to run the files - If you are on a Solaris/UNIX based machine or a SunRay, you already have a Java Environment - If you are on a windows or MAC based system (like a laptop), then ensure you have a Java Run-time Plug-in (see http://java.sun.com) 4) At a command line or DOS Prompt, make sure you are in the correct directory (the one containing the .jar file and the .srvytmplt file) and run the program by typing the command: java -cp Surveyor.jar Surveyor 5) Complete the survey 6) When finished, the application will automatically save your results in a file with your name, for example: "evelyn.thompson.srvyreslt" in the directory you created. 7) Please e-mail the survey file(s) "your_name.srvyreslt" to: survalias@central.sun.com We need to have all results in by Friday, March 15, at 1:00 pm MST. Feel free to contact me with any questions or issues that arise. We appreciate how valuable your time is and thank you for your participation. Please forward this message to other Java Programmer experts you think may be interested in helping out with this survey.
