On most lists, there's an expectation that you actually participate in the
conversations *over time*. It's usually the case that if you're a regular
participant and you're commenting on something that your product does well
(from a perspective that's appropriate to the list -- NOT just the
marketing BS) then that's cool. However, only chiming in when you can
spout some advertising is sometimes referred to as "seagull" posting and
it's frowned upon pretty much everywhere.
There's also a general expectation that people follow the standard
'netiquette guidelines in their postings. For example, trimming out the
unnecessary quoted materials in your followups. You just sent out a 29KB
followup message to add two paragraphs of information. That's definitely a
bad thing. On top of quoting more or less the entire thread up to this
point, you also sent out a duplicate alternative in HTML! That is *very*
anti-social behavior 'net behavior.
[Personally, I find it hilarious that people who are so tools and process
oriented in what they are selling so often use horrid tools and follow
wretched processes.]
There are a number of resources available for people to learn what good
newsgroup/forum & mailing lists 'netiquette is. Find them, learn them,
practice them.
Hope this helps,
John
ObAJUG: The best modelling tool, IMNSHO, is what is between people's
ears. Using whiteboards, pencil and paper, expensive computer
programs, etc. are mostly personal/group preferences. Use what
works for you but when you're feeling frisky, try other ways of
doing things.
