need A java COM wrapper

I need to figure out the best way to wrap an existing COM object in a java 
class.

I may be wrong but it seems that Sun provides COM wrappers around java 
classes and Microsoft provides java wrappers around COM objects.

It also seems that the Microsoft tools are more verstile except that they 
are requiring Microsoft VM's.  I don't want to be tied to a particular JVM.

Obviously, I would prefer to stay away from closed source third party 
solutions.  What are others out there using to wrap lagacy COM objects with?
