Jakarta Struts Rock Atlanta JUG

Struts has proven once again to be the biggest draw for Atlanta Java User
Group members! We packed the Wyndham with over 200 participants for Chuck
Cavaness' excellent presentation. The presentation and code samples are
available at http://www.ajug.org/meetings/index.html.

Chuck's new book, Jakarta Struts from O'reilly, is available for pre-orders
at Amazon.com

There were several announcements made at this past meeting. Here is a quick
recap:
- There is a Struts Study Group that is just now getting started.
http://www.open-tools.org/struts-atlanta/index.jsp
- The Java Certification Study Group is ready to begin with another group of
people interested in becoming certified in Java.

- There were some job openings mentioned. Please tell your company's
recruiters and hiring managers to place their job openings at
http://www.ajug.org/jobs/index.html
- The Georgia Web Developer's Conference sponsored by TAG is on Sept 18th.
More information is available at
http://www.tagonline.org/gwdc/
- Possible future meetings for AJUG include:
-- Floyd Marinescu with EJB Design Patterns
-- James Duncan Davidson - Open Source and Java
-- Joey Gibson - Ant, JUnit, XDoclet
-- J2EE vs .NET Smackdown (we are still evaluating speakers from various
vendors, if you know any please send them my way).
-- Jini (Sun has proposed a presentation on this topic)
-- Sonic Software on Web Services and JMS
-- Persistence/OR frameworks like JDO, OJB, DAO, Entity Beans, etc)
-- J2ME

As always your feedback on how well AJUG is performing is welcome. Any
thoughts on meeting location, timing, format, topics and speakers are always
great to hear. I would like to find a volunteer for someone to build a web
application (in Struts) that maintains an online survey for at least two
major elements. The first is a survey for meeting topics and the second is a
survey related to the most marketable skills in the IT workforce. Any
takers? And if anyone is willing to support us at the executive board level
feel free to let us know.

Thanks,
Burr
